Dillard “Whit” Whittington, 94 of Mineola, TX died on January 5, 2015 in Mineola. He was born on Thursday, November 4, 1920 in Quanah, TX to the late Jessie D. and Lillie Watson Whittington.
Dillard served in WWII in the Army Air Corp as a mechanic in China, Burma and India. He was employee for American Airlines for thirty-five years. The day he retired he joined Texas Baptist Retirees and helped build churches for fifteen years. Dillard lived in Dallas, TX after his service in WWII. He moved to Mineola, TX in 1982. He was a member of Harvest Acers Baptist Church and was known to most of Wood County as “Whit”, a fine fellow and someone to call if you needed a helping hand.
He preceded in death by his wife Sarah Ainsley; three brothers, Willard, Noonan and Lonnie; two sisters, Viera and Wynona.
Whit is survived by his wife Winnie Hazelwood Whittington; brother, JE Whittington of El Paso, TX; son Bob Whittington of Irving, TX; three step-sons, Michael Hazelwood of Mineola, TX, Barry Hazelwood of Kansas and Jim Hazelwood of Oregon; daughter, Amy Whittington of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Katie, Kenneth, Robert (Bo); step-grandchildren, Angie, Sandy, Erin and Scott; one great grand son, Braylon; step-great grandchildren, Jarrod, Josh, Scott, Avory, Forrest, Ben, Hyrum, Adam, Levi and Angela and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola, TX on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 from 6-8 PM. Funeral service will be at Beaty Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 2:00 PM officiated by Rev. David Burcham. Internment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Mineola, TX.
