"Bill W. "Billy" Abel, 84 years, of Fremont, NE passed away Friday, November 28, 2014 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE
Billy was born January 14, 1930 in Steele City, NE to Alfred and Margaret (Bridwell) Abel. He grew up in Fremont, NE and graduated from Fremont High School in 1948. After graduation, he served in the Nebraska National Guard and then served in the U.S. Navy from Dec. 19, 1956 to Dec. 17, 1958. He married Elizabeth "Tippy" Johnson on June 15, 1959. They later divorced. He then married Bess Scott on January 5, 1975. Billy worked for Western Electric until his retirement. He was a member of the Military Officers Association of America, life member of the National Rifle Association and past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He loved to travel in his fifth wheel and camp at Branched Oak. He also loved doing yard work and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Billy is survived by his son, Scott Abel; and sister, Candy and husband Dave Cerny; and grandchild, Trey Abel all of Fremont, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bess; sister, Teddy; brother, Bob; son, Greg; and granddaughter, Kelsey.
Funeral Service will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Greg Hall will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service at the funeral home. Military graveside services conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post #854 and American Legion Post #20 at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials may be directed to the family."
