Fank Patoile was the 8th born child of ten childen of Peter and Bertha Patwell (Patoile). As a young man Frank did electrical work for the YMCA in downtown St. Paul. He worked the night shift and at the end of his shift he would take the street car up 7th street to his home on Hyacinth Avenue. The streeetcar would drop him off at the end of his street. Because it was a two way thorough fare, when he exited the car, he would have to get off the street car and cross the tracts to get home.
The particular night that Frank was killed, he exited the street car and crossed the tracks. There was an oncoming streeet car headed in the opposite direction that Frank did not see. As Frank crossed the track, tired and after a hards night work, he was struck down by the oncoming car.
Franks body was not discovered until the next day. He was found lying in a low embankment next to the tracks. Unfortunate for his parents his life had probably ended upon impact by the streetcar.
Frank was the first Patoile family grave to be purchased in Union Cemetery by his mother. As years went by, Frank's mother and father were were laid to rest next to him.
