TUSCALOOSA A. R. (Jack) Shipp, Jr., age 87, of Tuscaloosa, died November 9, 2013, at home. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, November 14, 2013, at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Kenneth Donovan officiating and Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Thursday following the service at the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A. R. Shipp, Sr. and Bessie McDonald Shipp; wife, Joyce Benham Shipp and son-in-law, Bob Letson.
Survivors include his daughters, Shannon Shipp Templeton (Eddie) and Sherry Shipp Letson; son, A. R. Shipp, III (Judy); sister, JoDel Shipp Adams; brother, Patrick E. Shipp (Mary Ann); grandchildren, Allec, Leigh and Julie Shipp, Shawn (Julie) and Ryan Templeton, Rush (Tori) and Jack (Kate) Letson; and four great-grandchildren.
Jack was born in Kent County, Texas on March 6, 1926. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Indiana during World War II. He attended Louisiana Tech where he graduated with a degree in Forestry. He and Joyce married on September 13, 1950 and moved to Alabama after graduation in 1952. He worked for Gulf States Paper Corporation until retirement in 1991. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa and the Lee Sunday School Class.
