Pete Martinez, 90, passed away with his family by his side June 6, 2014. He was born December 4, 1923 in Gregory, Texas to Bentura and Paz Martinez. He was a lifelong resident of Aransas Pass, and was the first fire fighter in 1956 in this area. He became Fire Chief in 1969 and held that position for about 25 years. He served 12 years on the Aransas Pass City Council. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus council #11420, Grand Knight for 2 consecutive terms and member of the Lions Club. He was a fire instructor at Texas A&M College Station.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Grace Hernandez; brothers, Andres Martinez Morales, Gerardo Martinez, Luis Martinez; sisters, Margarita Martinez, Maria Aldape and Ramona Davila; grandson, Robby Gonzales.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lillie Perez Martinez; sons, Sonny Esquivel (Nelda) of Robstown, Texas, Richard Martinez (Mary Lou) of Aransas Pass, Texas; daughters, Penny Gonzales (Robert), Patsy Sturgeon (Guillermo), Belinda Ritz (Gilbert) all of Aransas Pass, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; six great-great- grandchildren. Expressions of sympathy may be made by donations to Knights of Columbus #11420.

Interment will follow mass at Prairie View Cemetery.
