M.L. Fore, former police chief, dies
Former Lodi Police Chier Millard L. Fore, 91, died Tuesday evening in a local hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Fore succeeded the late Clarence Jackson as chief of police in 1946 and held the title until he retired in 1952. He was named to the position after having served as a constable for 16 years.
Mr. Fore was a native of Clements who attended local schools. He serve in the U.S. Army during World War I and was stationed in England.
He married Beulah Wiltse in 1925 in Stockton. At the time he was employed by the Shell Oil Co., but later he and his wife owned and operated the Idylwild Store and Service Station west of Lodi.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Mr. Fore was a member of the Woodbridge Lodge No. 131 F&AM; the Scottish Rite Bodies in Stockton; Shriners; the Lodi Policeman's Association; the American Legion, Lodi Post No. 22; and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lodi Post No. 1958.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Beulah Fore of Lodi; two sons and a daughter and eight grandchildren.
