Amy, Paul Gilbert (Gilbert & Elizabeth Landry) b. 11 Jan 1844. (NI Ch.: v. 1, p. 55)
SWLA/Hebert Vol. 4 (1841-1847)

OBIT:

source: St. Landry Clarion (Opelousas, LA) Nov. 11, 1916, pg. 2

Gilbert Amy, of St. Martinsville, La., on Thursday morning Oct. 26, died at the home of his sister Mrs. Gustave Cahaninon, on Market street this city, after an illness of a few days. Mr. Amy was here on a visit to his sister when he was stricken with his fatal illness. The deceased was 56 years of age. He leaves a sister and brother.

The funeral was held Friday last at the Catholic Church at 5 o'clock p. m. with interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr. Amy was an old confederate soilder having devoted four years of his young life in the service of the army for the "Lost Cause". In the provence of God, the roll call of time has taken another noble soul from amoung (sic) the ranks of the verable (sic) old Grays, to the mysterious beyond, leaving us blessed only, by the hollowed memories of his long life and deeds.

2nd OBIT - St. Landry Clarion (Opelousas, LA) Nov. 11, 1916, pg. 2

Death of Gilbert Amy. -

"God touched him with his finger and he slept;" the poet wrote. So may we say of this venerable old man. "God touched with his finger and he slept," but not until a long and beautiful life was lived, a noble example of patience, fidelity to truth and faith given. Mr. Amy was a native of St. Martinville, and was brought here by his loving sister who wanted to have her brother who was afflicted with paralysis near her so that she could administer the many kindneses to one so dear to her, but the hand of divinity had layed upon him and in a short time was called to meet his maker. Mr. Amy lived to a ripe old age, being 76 years of age at the time of his death. He is survived by one sister and two brothers, Mrs. Guastave Canhanin and Arthur Amy of Opelousas and Anthony Amy of Loreauville, La.
