"Adam Overturf was born ca 1805 in Virginia, or Tennessee, and was married to a Rachel, who was also born either in VA or TN. Different census information gives both locations as place of birth.
Adam and Rachel were in Franklin County, Illinois by 1835. They were part of the original membership in the Benton Baptist Church when it was organized from the Mount Pleasant Church.
Adam and Rachel were the parents of:
-John W. Overturf, b.1829, who married Dicey MILLER.
-Benjamin F., b. 1831, who married Susanna HAMMONDS and Mary P. J. “Mulky” MEEKS.
John and Benjamin were born in Tennessee, possibly Marion or Warren County. The following children were born in Franklin County, Illinois.
-Mary “Polly” (ca 1835-1872) who married Ira BRASHEARS and Thomas DAVIS.
-Arwine (1837-1859) who married Mary Ann TEFFERTILLER.
-Eli (1840- ) who married Martha WAYMAN
-Levi, b. 1843. Married Elizabeth Gulley and moved to Arkansas before 1911.
-Francis Marion Overturf, b. 1845, who married Martha T BREEDING and Nancy J. (1848-1857).
Adam died in 1857 and Rachel is still living in the 1880 Franklin County, IL Census. She stated she was born in Virginia, her father was born in England and her mother was born in Germany." (Jerri Kay Williams)
