Alvin Manring, one of the pioneers of Whitman county, died at his home in Garfield Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, aged 70 years. Mr. Manring located a homestead near Garfield, in this county, in 1878, a part of that homestead being now the town.
Mr. Manring was born in Ohio and lived in Missouri before coming to Washington.
The deceased was a member of the Masonic order and the funeral was held under their direction Wednesday, a large number being present from Colfax.
Mrs. Manring has been dead several years, but eight children survive the deceased.
Mr. Manring has always been prominent in the life of Whitman county and he is credited with having found the first Sunday school in Garfield.
Many friends in every part of the county will mourn with the children.
