Beatrice Stephen Mabe, 87, of Rocky Mount, passed away Tuesday March 2, 2004. She was born April 17, 1916 in Stokes County, N.C., a daughter of the late James Arch and Etta Lee Tucker Stephen. Mrs. Mabe attended school in Stokes County, N.C. and moved to Virginia in 1933 and to Rocky Mount in 1983, she was employed by Pannill Knitting and retired with 33 years of service. She was a member of Hodgesville Pentecostal Holiness Church. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett H. Mabe; and a granddaughter, Lynn Ikner. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy M. and Joel Edwards of Ridgeway and Carolyn M. and Roger W. Lumsden of Roanoke; one son and daughter-in-law, Bill E. and Betty Mabe of Eden, N.C.; six grandchildren, Darrell Mabe and wife, Beth of Winston-Salem, N.C., Jerry Stallard of Martinsville, Chad Stallard and wife, Hope of Ridgeway, Danna Duncan of Roanoke, Tammy Cook and Bill of Ferrum, and Elvin Hawks, Jr. and wife, Lisa of Jacksonville, Fla.; two step-grandchildren, Mike Edwards of Galax and Vanessa Edwards of Ridgeway; four great-grandchildren, Roger Lee Duncan, U.S. Army, Germany, Brandon Stallard of Virginia Beach, Kristofer Black of Ferrum and Christopher Stallard of Ridgeway; two step-great-grandchildren, Brittany Cook of Ferrum and Cameron Everett Snyder of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Annie Johnson of Martinsville and Sadie Hampton of Walnut Cove, N.C.; and a very special friend, Betty Brown of Rocky Mount. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2004 from Flora Funeral Chapel with Rev. Hollis Harris and Rev. Billy Hicks officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Ridgeway. Those desiring to may make memorials to the American Heart Association.
