Alvaretta Pratt Joyce, 88, of Ridgeway, passed away Monday, August 12, 2013, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born in Henry County on July 19, 1925, to Alva Lee Pratt and Nellie Taylor Pratt. Mrs. Joyce retired from Pannill Knitting Company, where she was employed for over 30 years. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Thomas Joyce; one sister, Pauline Gray Pratt; and three brothers, Paul Cecil Pratt, Lawrence Gerald Pratt, and Virgil Lee Pratt.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Lee Joyce and wife, Eleanor, of Mechanicsville, Va., and William Pratt Joyce and wife, Debra, of Harrisburg, N.C.; four grandchildren, Thomas Joyce (Alexis) of Arlington, Va.; Kevin Joyce and Jessica Ritchie of Norfolk, Va.; David Joyce of Mechanicsville, Va.; Kimberly Marie Joyce (John Rhoadhouse) of Rockville, Md.; and two great grandchildren, Ellie Joyce and Tommy Joyce of Arlington, Va.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 15, 2013, at 11 am at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville with the Rev. Robinson H. McAden and the Rev. Keith Vernon officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway.
