Rev. Stephen Teehee Sr. was born in the Cherokee Nation East (GA) and died in the Cherokee Nation, IT, the son of Charlie [Bearpaw] "Char-la-te-hee" Teehee and Margaret "Wa-a-ky" Proctor. He had the following siblings: Lydia who married Samuel Hensley; Mary A. J. who married a Walkingstick; Lizzie; James; and Charles Teehee Jr. who married Elizabeth Beamer.

He married in 1864 (1) Rhoda Benge b. Dec 25, 1837 in the CNE (GA) d. Mar 16, 1886, daughter of Martin Benge and Eliza Lowrey; they had the following children: William, Pickens, Esther, Spencer, Laura, Houston Benge, Stephen Jr., Rosa, and Martin Benge Teehee.

He married in 1888 (2) Frances Ellen Riggs (buried at this cemetery); they had the following children: Schofield Tehee Sr. and wife Annie Lemaster (both buried at Park Hill Cem.); Elizabeth "Lizzie" who married Samuel H. Adkisson Sr. (both buried at Hendricks Cem.); Monroe Buster and wife Catherine "Kittie" Adkisson (both buried at Hendricks); Levi Teehee; Sequoyah Bun (buried at Hendricks); Davis who married Carrie Teehee; and Mary Teehee who married John Wallace Caruthers

Cherokee Name:; Ge-nah-de-dieh, the middle name which is his wife's surname is a Cherokee tradition of taking the wife's surname as a middle name.

Stephen was well-known by his people for his wisdom and kindness and always spoke in his native Cherokee tongue; he became a role model for the younger generation through the pulpit as a Rev., in government and in tribal business. From the age of 30, Stephen served as District Clerk, Dist. Solilcitor, and as Circuit Judge. He was a member of the Cherokee Executive Council, Grand Council, and was Asst. Chief of the Cherokee Nation for a brief time.
