Christine Hendrick Read Monrote, 83, of Big Stone Gap, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, at Heritage Hall Nursing Center in Big Stone Cap. She was a former 40 year resident of Georgetown, Washington, D.C. She was the wife of the late Earl Monrote.
Born Nov. 27, 1913 in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late John Robert and Davie Reynolds Hendrick. She was a retired employee of the Heck Company Washington, D.C. and was a former member of Fairview Christian Church.
Surviving are four nieces and their husbands, Shirley Creasy Baber and Lyle C. Baber, of Lynchburg, Barbara Creasy Polly and Dr. Brownie E. Polly of Big Stone Gap, Jeanette Hendrick Bjerkes and B.J. Bjerkes of Milton, Fla., and Sharon Hendrick Jamerson and Melvin Jamerson of Lynchburg and two nephews and their wives, Kenneth E. and Glenda T. Creasy and Ronald E. and Patricia A. Hendrick, all of Lynchburg.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel with the Rev. Paul A. Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
