Actor. Best remembered as the greatest Sicilian drama actor and one of the greatest ever in Italy. Giovanni started his activities in the puppet show at the theater managed by his father Angelo. Later he started his work in the theater with the help of the poet and film director Nino Martoglio, alongside the famous poet and with a major theater company composed among others by Virginia Balistrieri, Angelo Musco, Rocco Spadaro, Jacinta Pezzana and Totò Majorana, Grasso played several successful works such as "Il Berretto a Sonagli", "Feudalesimo", "Morte Civile", "Pietra su Pietra" and "Cavalleria Rusticana" playing in the most important theaters of Italy and the world. From 1910 to 1924, Giovanni also worked in silent cinema of which he regarded by many as a pioneer in the international sphere for film "Sperduti nel Buio" (1914) directed by Nino Martoglio.
