Madelyn Philpot Green, age 85, of Mena, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehab in Mena. She was born at home on June 16, 1927, weighing only between two and three pounds, to Aliuse Joseph and Lucinda Bertrand Pitre in Elton, Louisiana.

Madelyn was a Christian and lived her life by His standards. It was very important to her that her children grew up following The Lord's Will for their lives. At 18 she fell in love with, and married, "her pastor," remaining married to him until he passed away in 1982; then in 1999 she married for the second time marrying "the love of her life," her second husband. During the time she was raising her family, she made all their clothes, cooked three good meals a day, baked homemade bread, canned garden vegetables and prepared desserts from scratch; not-to-mention, while keeping an immaculate house. In her "spare time," she was a self-taught hair stylist to her husband, son, four daughters and herself. Later in life she worked outside of the home as the office manager for a dentist in Mer Rouge, Louisiana and later as an associate librarian in Missouri City, Texas. Madelyn was an excellent alto singer and taught herself to play the piano. She had a talent for working with her hands whether it was with fabric, crochet or embroidery. She also wrote poems, some of which were published in our local "Mountain Signal" and in the Baptist "Home Life" magazine, etc. Madelyn, formerly a member of the Williams Trace Baptist Church of Sugarland, Texas, became a member of the First Baptist Church of Mena after moving here in 2009. She dearly loved her large extended family and friends and will be missed by all who knew her.

Madelyn was preceded in death by her father, Aliuse Joseph Pitre; her mother, Lucinda Bertrand Pitre Tupper; her step-father, Henry A. Tupper; her first husband, the Reverend Euel V. Philpot, her second husband, Major Albert B. Green; one son, Warren Burke Philpot and her sister, Annette L. Pitre.

She is survived by her son, Len Alyn Philpot and wife, Annette of Pineville, Louisiana; four daughters and three son in laws, Carolyn and John Horn of Lenexa, Kansas, Janalyn Philpot-Aulds and husband, Gus Aulds of Mena, Sheralyn and Phillip Miller of Humble, Texas and Rondalyn Baker of Meadows Place, Texas; two step-sons, Wayne Green and wife Lisa of Henderson, Nevada and Tony Green of Cincinnati, Ohio; three step-daughters, Sandra Finley of Texarkana, Arkansas, Gay Tuttle of Houston, Texas and Elizabeth Moore and husband Keith of Houston, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Delores Pitre of Elton, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Katherine Kerr of Long Island, New York, James Horn of Wathena, Kansas, Lauren Evangelista of Kansas City, Kansas, Evan Baker of San Diego, California, Alex Baker of Meadows Place, Texas, and Rachel Philpot of Pineville, Louisiana; numerous great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the Cherry Hill Baptist Church with Brother Dink Doss and Janalyn Philpot-Aulds officiating. Interment will follow in the Cherry Hill Cemetery under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.
