Dave G. Loewen married Catherine B. Spenst (Spence) on August 8, 1920 in Littlefield, Texas.

Four boys were born to them before moving to Winton, California in 1926. They lived in town for 5 years. Dave worked on the Hall Ranch for 20 cents an hour and somehow he was able to buy a 20-acre ranch on Olive Avenue, between Winton Way and Jones Road. A daughter and 2 more sons were born to them in Winton. Dave operated a small dairy, growing alfalfa and other crops. Catherine worked part-time at the local dehydrator.

In 1951, Dave, Catherine and youngest son, Jim moved to Walnut Hill, Florida to be near their married daughter.
Their children: Abe, Jesse, Daniel (died in WWII); Helen, John and Jim.

My dear husband, our loving father, grandfather, and great-randfather, David G. Loewen. was born to Peter B. and Maria Giesbrecht Loewen, August 8, 1898, at Hillsboro, Kansas. He very suddenly and peacefully passed away at home with his wife by his side. He reached the age of 83 years and 5 months.

When he was sixteen years old, he, with his parents, moved to Littlefield, Texas.

At the age of twenty-two he realized the need of a Saviour and through repentance and forgiveness of sins was baptized and added to the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, by the late Minister Abe Ensz.

On August 8, 1920, he was married to me, Catherine Spence, at Littlefield, Texas. We shared life's joys and sorrows for over sixty-one years.

In 1923 we moved to Winton, California, where he worked for wages and later went into farming and dairying. We moved to Walnut Hill, Florida, in 1951, where he farmed till his retirement in 1969. He was in fair health till 1979, when he had a slight stroke. However, his health improved so that we still had a little over seven years together. Dad and Mom loved the outdoors together in the last couple of years.

Dad's friendly disposition won many friends; to some he was "Usher Dave." He enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great-grand children coming home to visit. He was a great lover of song and enjoyed church services through an intercom in the home. We especially appreciated Dad's spirit the last few weeks, which gives us an assurance. He expressed his desire to go home.

Besides his loving wife, Catherine, Dad leaves to cherish his memories: four sons and one daughter: Abe and wife Bernettie of Geiger, Alabama; Jess and wife Edna of Lodi, California; Johnny and wife Lorraine of St. Petersburg, Florida; Jim and wife Rose of Walnut Hill, Florida; Helen and husband Edwin Diller of Walnut Hill, Florida; sixteen grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren; two brothers: Cornelius and Jake of Glenn, California; one sister, Greta Fast of Edberg, Alberta; and many other relatives and friends.

Father was preceded in death by one son, Danny; two grandsons; his parents; three brothers: and two sisters.
Funeral services were held in Walnut Hill, Florida, February 4, 1982, with Ministers Francis Peters and Harry Harms and Deacon David Giesbrecht in charge. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
