Prenters Broughton, Jr, 69, of Port Orchard, WA, died January 30, 2002, at his home in Port Orchard.Prenters was born May 11, 1932, in Troup, TX, to Prenters and Jannie (Daniels) Broughton, Sr. He graduated from Stanton High School in Whitehouse, TX, in 1952. He later graduated from Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey, CA.Prenters served as a Master Sgt in the United States Army from 1952 to 1977. He served 2 tours in Korea and 2 tours in Vietnam. Prenters earned numerous awards including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.After serving in the Army, Prenters worked in civil service for 16 years as a warehouseman, in Fort Ord, CA, and at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA. He retired in 1997.Prenters belonged to the Disabled American Vets, Veteran of Foreign Wars, and the NAACP, and was a member of the Baptist Church.On May 28, 1989, Prenters married Grace (Jabillo) Broughton in Reno, NV. She has been his constant companion for the past 12 years.Prenters is survived by his wife, Grace, of Port Orchard; 6 sons; 3 daughters; sisters, Elizabeth Newsome, of Lindale, TX, Mae Ella Green, of Troup, TX, and Georgia Brown, of Troup, TX; 21 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.A viewing will be held January 31, 2002, from 10AM to 5PM at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. Services will be held at North Tenneha Church of Christ in Tyler, TX, on Wednesday, February 6, at 1PM, with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Tyler.Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, Kitsap Unit, PO Box 2382, Bremerton, WA 98310.
