Irene had infantile paralysis when she was a young girl, leaving her confined to a wheelchair. Irene was very limited as to what she could do for the rest of her life. However, she loved to visit her sister, Ruby Johnson, who lived down the road, and make custard pie.
Irene was loved very much, and she was taken care of very well by her parents and sisters.
Irene lived within sight of Pleasant Valley Church and Pleasant Valley Cemetery most of her life.
