Sister Trinitas Miles, OSB, 76, a Benedictine Sister of Mt. Saint Scholastica died Friday, November 9, 2012 at Mt. Saint Scholastica.
Mass of Resurrection will be Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at Mt. Saint Scholastica. A vigil service will be Monday, November 12th at 7:00 P.M. at the Monastery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Mt. Saint Scholastica. The Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The only child of Alphonsus (Al) and Estine Elizabeth Norton Miles, Sister Trinitas was born February 15, 1936, in Altus, Okla. The family moved to Sedalia, Mo., where Sister Trinitas graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1954. She entered the Mount community in August, 1954, and made monastic profession in 1956. She earned her bachelor of science in education with minors in biology and music from Mount St. Scholastica College. Her teaching ministry of some 20 years in Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska helped her students to become well-versed in natural history, care for the environment, and astronomy. She earned the Kansas social work license with emphasis in gerontology from St. Mary College, Leavenworth, Kans., and did social work, care for the aging, and chaplaincy in Kansas and Oklahoma. Sister Trinitas was awarded a Title IV grant for further study at the Andrus Percy Gerontological Institute, the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. She became a registered music therapist through work at the University of Kansas, and certified as hospital chaplain with emphasis in gerontology through the St. Joseph Medical Center, Omaha, Nebr. Sister Trinitas studied clowning at Penn Valley Community College, Kansas City, Mo., was a member of the Kansas City Clowns in Christ, and delighted in using clowning in her gerontological work. More recently she shared her gifted voice in liturgical service at Dooley Center, her community's care facility.
Sister Trinitas was predeceased by her parents and is survived by cousins and by her monastic community.
