U.S. Navy Veteran, Spanish American War and World War One (1895-1925). During the Spanish American War, he was a Seaman on Commodore George Dewey's flagship of the seven-ship Asiatic Squadron, USS Olympia, and during the Battle of Manila Bay, on May 1, 1898. He served 30 years and was a rated sailmaker's mate.

He immigrated to the US from Norway in 1887 and became a naturalized US Citizen. During his 30 year Navy career, in addition to USS Olympia, he served on Baltimore, Independence, Isla de Luzon, Iris, Iowa, Philadelphia, and Boston. Per the 1910 and 1920 US Censuses, he was living in Brooklyn with his wife Margaret and working at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Following his discharge from the Navy in 1925, he worked as an upholsterer. He remained in Brooklyn, as did many of the former sailors and marines of Admiral Dewey's USFS Olympia during the Spanish American War. He was survived by his wife, Margaret, when he died in 1930 at approximately 57 years of age.
