Maybury Burial Ground
Huffs Church, Berks County, Pennsylvania, USA
MAYBERRY
Hereford Township: From Huffs Church take Conrad Rd. to 495. The site is located up the hill near the power line and actually is on a neighbor's property. Permission and directions should be obtained at 495 Conrad. Area can be difficult to find. Once you are about 90' from the summit, cut into the woods on the right and proceed about 50 yards directly back to an area with a small marker
stone encircled by fieldstones. Size: 36' x 45'
History: A new stone was set for Thomas Maybury who is said to have been buried with his Indian friends. Area shows evidence of more burials, but Indian burial ground more likely to have been near rock pile at top of hill, about 100 yards above the Maybury site.
Gravemarker and inscription: Thomas Maybury, owner of Hereford Furnace
Observations: Indicate graves are laying north to south; there are 3 rows with 5, 6 and 7 abreast. An attempt was made to locate the Indian burial ground, but underbrush was so dense it was impossible to locate the stones and to make any observations for burial evidence.
Site address: 1084 Huffs Church Rd. (Green Briar Farm) Alburtis
Pin: 52-5481-04-93-2002 DB 2025 p. 0053
