Veteran of U. S. Civil War
******************************************
Civil war records indicate that a Henry Arcularius of New York was killed at the Battle of Spotsylvania, Virginia. Since family legend has it that he died at the battle of Chickamauga - but no record exists of his participation in this battle - perhaps the Spotsylvania record is correct. Henry Arcularius's parents, who lived in Brooklyn, NY, were originally from Germany.
Information - not conclusive, but helpful. From NYS Adj.-Gen. report of 1903 on the 124 NYSV: "Arcularius, Henry - Age, 21 years. Enlisted, Auigust 6, 1862, at Chester, [Orange Co., NY,] to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. A, [124 NYSV,] September 5, 1862; wounded in action, May 3, 1863, at Chancellorsville, Va.; promoted corporal, prior to May 1, 1864; absent, missing in action, May 12, 1864, at Spotsylvania Court Hosue, Va., and at muster-out of company."
On October 3, 1870 his mother, identified as "Arcularius, Maria H. E." filed a pension application. You identify his father's third wife as having a middle name of Maria. You identify Henry's mother as having died in 1844. This is not conclusive proof to connect Henry to this family but these are some additional pieces of the puzzle.
