Abner enlisted August 1814 and was mustered in the 7th Regiment North Carolina Militia, He was in the 2nd Brigade of North Carolina Militia and 8th Regiment 8th Co .He was a member of the 2nd Lincoln Regiment of North Carolina Militia and was sent to Georgia during the War of 1812.
His grave was commemorated in 2012 with a commemorative Bicentennial War of 1812 Marker.
