George McMurphy, a native of New York, came west to Pike County, IL. later went to Wayne county, and from there to Hampton Township, near Rapids City, in 1832, where he died. His son, Geo. Rodney McMurphy, was born at Rochester, N.Y., was eight years old when his parents settled here.
