This is my grandpa's obituary! He was an amazing person, I love him to pieces!

William L. Irving or more commonly known as "Mont" or "Monty" a long-time resident of Cascade Locks, Oregon passed away the Portland VA Medical Center with family by his side on January 27th, 2010.

Monty was born March 8, 1926 in Gooding, Idaho to William Floyd and Afton Delilah Irving. He moved in his youth with his family to Hood River, Oregon. It was in his youth that Monty developed a love for the outdoors.

Monty served our country proudly during World War II in the US Navy. He was stationed in the South Pacific and hauled aircraft and was a signalman or more affectionately known as a "Scivey Waiver" he was the flag man that helped aircraft land safely on the carrier.

After the war he moved to Cascade Locks, Oregon and it was during this time that he fell for a lovely young, Genevieve Rose Woodward and would find excuses to drive by her house. One day "Gen's" grandmother said why don't you invite that boy inside and shortly thereafter on May 19, 1947 they married and to this union they were blessed with four children.

Monty was proud of his service to our country and has been a member of the VFW for over 60 years. He was very active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and also the military order of the cootie an "Honored Degree" of the VFW. He is a past Grand Commander (62-63 & 95-96) and the Cooties of the year in 1995. He and Gen both were active in the Cootie organization.

He worked for 27 years driving truck for Miller & Spear Beverage Company. His route was throughout the Portland area and he collected many friends along the way.

Monty enjoyed being with his family and friends. He enjoyed the great outdoors; hunting and fishing. His family has many fond memories of their hunting trips to the Ukiah and The Blues.

Monty is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife of 63 years, Genevieve Irving "Gen" of their home in Cascade Locks, Oregon; four children, Janet (& Ronald) Eldridge of Prineville, Oregon, Chet (& Yvonne) Irving of Vancouver, Washington, Sherilyn (& Robert) Foley of Cascade Locks, Oregon and Elizabeth Jimmerson of Gresham, Oregon; fifteen grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; seventeen great great grandchildren; two sisters, Martena Pennington of Cascade Locks, Oregon and Patricia "Pat" (& Ralph) Hesgard of Cascade Locks, Oregon; step-brother, Seth Taylor of Emmett, Idaho; and numerous other family and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Afton Delilah Taylor Dykman, Oscar "Pee Wee" Irving, Walter "Pete" Irving and Richard "Babe" Irving.
