Oella Stanton Tappan was the 7th of 11 children born to Anna Louise Grand-Girard & Rev. David David Stanton Tappan.She was born in Mt.Pleasant, Henry, Iowa and attended school there. In 1890, the family moved to Portsmouth, Ohio and it was there that Oella met Edgar Lowman, the son of David & Malinda Lowman. Edgar was the Secretary of the YMCA in Portsmouth and belonged to the Church that Oella's father was serving. Edgar and Oella were married in Oct. 3, 1895 in Portsmouth by her father. They had 2 daughters, Lucy and Oella. Edgar died in 1904, leaving Oella a young widow with 2 small children to care for so the small family moved to her parents home in Circleville, Ohio. In 1913, the Rev. David Tappan family moved to California where their daughter Julia had located with her husband. They felt that the climate in California would be perfect for retirement.

In her later years, she lived with her daughter Lucy.

Oella was preceded in death by her husband & parents and is survived by her daughters, Lucy Lowman of Pasadena & Oella (Henry Clyde) McCarley of Santa Ana, CA and grandchildren: Betty (Don) Webb, Lowman & Clyde Lee McCarley and Gt. Grandchildren, Wayne, David & Marilyn Webb.
