He was the son of Edith Mae (Williams) and Frank Robinson Washburn. He married Mary E. Harter on 19 June 1942 in Davenport, Iowa. Children include a daughter who died in infancy, another daughter, two sons and five grandchildren.
Keith served with the Army Air Force in WWII and worked for a time at his brother's business, Midwest Window Cleaning in Davenport, Iowa. In 1954, the family moved to Waterloo, Iowa where he owned and operated Superior Window Cleaning and Janitor Service. He was a member of the Eagles and Moose Lodges.

Services were held at Chapel of Memories West with Rev. M. J. Dwyer of St. Mark's Episcopal Church officiating. A flag folding ceremony was conducted by members of Becker-Chapman Post No. 138 of the American Legion.
