Musician. He gained fame as a Grammy-nominated jazz musician. He wrote music for Doc Severinsen, who led the NBC Orchestra on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson." He attended the University of North Texas College of Music, graduating in 1969, then played in and arranged for the Air Force Academy Falconaires from 1969 to 1973 before relocating to Australia. He returned to the United States in 1980 and for a time, taught at DePaul University. He published more than 165 works for combo and jazz ensembles. He also recorded five albums in which he earned 11 Grammy nominations. He died suddenly of a heart attack.
