U.S. Congressman. He studied medicine in Torringford, Connecticut, received his diploma in 1812, was on the medical lecture board given by Dr. Benjamin Rush at the University of Pennsylvania and practiced medicine at East Winsted, Connecticut. Moving to New York, in 1813, he practiced medicine in Homer, New York and engaged in business as a retail druggist. He served as president of the Cortland County Medical Society, (1820-26) and was appointed by President Jackson, Postmaster of Homer, New York, serving (1829-39). In 1841, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-seventh Congress, serving until 1843. After leaving Congress, he resumed the practice of medicine and operated a flour mill in Homer, New York, until is death.
