Frances I. Buckles
Mrs. Frances Inez Burrow Buckles, 88, 503 B Sugar Hollow Road, Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, on Sunday, September 20, 2009, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late William Frank and Oma Elizabeth
Daughton Burrow. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Clyde “L” Buckles; a daughter, Lois Beatrice Buckles; a sister, Connie Chappel; a brother, Joe Buckles; and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Buckles was the loving mother of 12 children and a homemaker. She was a member of Watauga Community Fellowship Church.
Mrs. Buckles is survived by 11 of her children, Mary Etta Lyons, Martha Lue McIntosh, Sandra Inez Hardin, Eleanor Louise Prophett, Elizabeth Dale Samples, Joe Frank Buckles, Rocky Malone Buckles, Danny Clyde Buckles, Vikki Sue Ward, Fredia Teresia Knarr and Allen Martin Buckles; 32 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Rose Christine Hill and her husband, Rod, Elizabethton; and a brother, James “Jimmy” Burrow, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 24, and at other times at the home of her son, Allen Buckles, 764 Sugar Hollow Road, Elizabethton. The funeral service for Mrs. Buckles will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, September 25, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Ken Hauser officiating. The graveside service and interment will be conducted following the funeral service on Friday at Caldwell Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, Bethesda, MD 20814.
