Paul E. "Gene" Johnson, 71, Overland Park, died Monday at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. He was born in Circleville, KS, and had lived Jackson County, Kansas, prior to moving to Kansas City 1947.

Mr. Johnson also known as "Gene" and Smiley," worked for Phillips Petroleum Co for 31 years before he retired in 1979. He was a member of the Roger E. Sherman Masonic Lodge No. 369, Kansas City, Kansas. Gene retired from Phillips Refinery in January 1979.

He was the son of Frank and Anne Anderson Johnson. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and brothers, Walter, Albert, Lowell, Franklin and Amos Egar and sisters, Effie Emeline Bowser, Clara Ellen Bowser, Marian Elizabeth Ray and Pearl Frances Mize.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Baker Johnson of the home and daughters, Barbara Klamm, St. Charles, MO, and Judy Raydo, Kansas City, MO, Paula Browne, Shawnee and son Michael Johnson, Kansas City, sister Abbie May Landon, Holton and brother Robert E. Johnson, Shawnee. He is survived by eight grandchildren.

Funeral Services were to be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21, at the Butler Funeral Home, Kansas City. Burial was in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, KS.
