Hazel Edith Witherspoon, 76, of Clinton, Ind., formerly of Paris, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday (July 26, 2000) in West Central Community Hospital, Clinton, Ind.The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, Paris. Burial will be in Edgar Cemetery, Paris. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.She was born April 20, 1924, in Chrisman, a daughter of Charlie Ayers and Edith Lystner Ayres. She married James W. Witherspoon in 1946; he survives.Also surviving are four sons, Donald Witherspoon of Paris, and Jimmy, Larry and Jerry Witherspoon, all of Clinton, Ind.; five daughters, Nancy Callahan and Betty Lucas, both of Mattoon, Shirley Moreton of Appleton, Wis., Mary Gass of Charleston and Wanda Witherspoon of Clinton, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, two brothers and two sisters.
