Charles DeBard, 88, of 1149 Miner St., died Tuesday in St. Joseph's Hospital after an illness of five days. Born in Starke County, Ohio, on June 8, 1875, he had lived his lifetime in this area. On March 8, 1942, he married Mathilda Leafdahl, who survives. He had been a piano tuner and operated a grocery store on Arthur St. for many years. He also is survived by a son, William, of Pomona, Calif.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today at the Hollis Funeral Home, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Claude J. Eaton, pastor of Lowell Heights Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Mr. DeBard was a member of Lowell Heights Church.
