He served in the Allied European Forces under the command of Black Jack Pershing and Col. Billy Mitchell. Battles and engagements included the Argonne Forest and Saint Mihiel were he was gassed causing lung complications from which he later died at home south of Farmersville. His name is among the war dead listed on the Freedom Plaza Memorial in down town Farmersville
