Naomi Goodman, Susie to many, age 84 of Johnston, IA, died Monday, April 18, 2011 at her home. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at Johnston Evangelical Free Church, with burial to follow in the McDivitt Cemetery, Urbandale.

Naomi will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and sons: Linda Benson (Dick) of Plano, TX; Robert Goodman Jr. (Judy) of Minburn, IA; Steven Goodman (LaVonne,) of Yoder, CO; and Vincent Goodman (Shanlyn), of Hampton, Iowa; her siblings: Elaine Fischbach (Dick), of Arvada, CO; Wayne Kahler (Dorothy), of Cedar Rapids, IA; Wendell Kahler (Carol), of Jacksonville, TX; and brother-in-law Vernon Coon of Mesa, AZ; her grandchildren: Jennifer Roberts (John); Krista Benson (Jeff Buckland); Jeremiah Goodman ( Ashley); Andrew Goodman (Liz); Catherine Goodman Brown (Luke); Daniel Goodman, Richard Benson, David Goodman, Breanna Goodman and Caleb Goodman; plus great-grandchildren Heaven and Hope Goodman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1990 and half siblings: Bill Ward, Doris Trimble, Peggy Coon, and Lewis Ward.

Naomi Darlene Goodman was born August 11, 1926, in Ladora, Iowa, the daughter of August Andrew Kahler and Irma C. Stovall Carey. She received her education in a one-room schoolhouse in Ladora and graduated from Marengo High School. She moved to Des Moines to work in 1944. She met Robert Goodman while roller skating. They married on August 30, 1947 at the Des Moines Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife and mother who was happiest with her family around her. She also enjoyed flowers, knitting and crocheting, and playing canasta.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Thru the Bible Radio Network, P.O. Box 7100, Pasadena, CA 91109.
