U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Keene (New Hampshire) Academy, moved to Wisconsin in 1853 and engaged in agricultural pursuits. There, he was an alderman, was a member of the first City Council of Beloit, was appointed Postmaster of Beloit by President Grover Cleveland, and was secretary of the agricultural society of Wisconsin. In 1891, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-second Congress, serving until 1893. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he retired from public life and was active in business pursuits until his death at age 75 in Beloit, Wisconsin.
