She was born January 24, 1919 in Green Moutain, Yancy County, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Isaac Pierce and Lounette (Bailey) Hopson.
Marguerite was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed being a homemaker, working in the garden, and was an avid quilter. You can find her quilts far and wide.
She was a faithful member of Lake Marburg Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Douglas Garland of Glenville; daughters Alice F. Geeting and husband James S. of West Palm Beach, Florida and Rayna C. Homan and husband Charles A. of Glenville; five grandchildren; Melanie Garland, Randall Geeting, Zane Garland, Sherry Bixler, and Marguerite Hoy; eight great-grandchildren, Zachary, Adam, Kathleen, Skylynn, Justin, Kelsey, Lucas, and Jake; two step great-grandchildren, Cory and Lindsay; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her husband, David D. in 1984; a son, Charles D.; five brothers, Dempsey, Charles, Earl, Lawrence, and Edward Hopson; and two sisters, Lucy and Maxine Gortney.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Garland will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 25 at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle Street, Hanover with Pastor Mark Rasnake officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, February 24 at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory. There will be a second opportunity to view at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Marburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hanover. Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Homan, Zane Garland, Don Bixler, Lucas Koerner, Kevin Hoy, Jr., and Robert Jarrett.
