Salida Mail 11 Mar 1975
Edward Gonzales was born in San Miguel, California, 15th of Jan 1900 to Antone & Flora Gonzales. His father was born in Massachusetts by parents who came over from Portugal. He had 4 siblings, 2 brothers & 2 sisters. After 1920 he moved from California to Colorado. Some of them came to Colorado too.
He married his wife Eloisa Leyba 4 Dec 1922 in Salida, Colo. It was a very nice wedding by looking at the wedding photos. They bought a house and lived there the rest of there lives & raised their adopted son & only child. He worked at the Salida depot of the D & R G railroad. (Denver & Rio Grande) where he was a Stationary Engineer. He retired in the 1960's.
As a child & from my fathers memories , he was a stern & honest hard worker. He enjoyed doing wood working as a past time & had a large garden & fruit trees. Our favorite fruit trees to climb as his grand children were the cherry trees. We would eat so many we would get sick. LOL. He always wore dress clothes with a Bolo Tie and suspenders & a hat.
He died March 7th 1975 in Salida, Colorado while a patient at the hospital a few days. He died from congestive heart failure. He is buried at Fairview Cemetery in Salida Colorado next to his wife who died in 1977. His wife & son survive him and other family members.
