If you are related or researching this family, and would like to share information or photos, I'd really like to hear from you. Lydia Jackson Starr was my husband's 2nd Great-Grandmother.

There were several early cemeteries in the Harleton area, but due to either no marker, or none still available, sadly, we do not know the exact burial place for Lydia Jackson Starr. We know from the census, that Dr. Chadd and his wife resided nearby. Dr. Chadd treated Lydia's nephew, Aaron Starr for his knife wounds, until his death.

Lydia married Willliam Starr 14 October 1815 in Clinton County, Ohio. William died after 15 February 1845, his burial was probably Hardin County, Tennessee where they resided and owned land at the time. His widow Lydia, and children, some already grown, moved to Harleton, Harrison County, Texas and found in 1850 and 1860 Harrison County, Texas census. Lydia was the Mother of at least 13 known children and resided Harrison County, Texas at time of 1860 census federal census. Lydia died Texas, presuming Harrison County, Texas. Exact burial place unknown.

There is not a filmed copy of the 1870 census for the Harleton area . . that presents a 20 year period between the 1860 and the 1880 census, and between the 1880 and 1900 census for many of these families in the Harleton area.

Lydia was the daughter of Esther (Hart?) and Samuel Jackson. Altho Lydia, and her sister Sarah each named a daughter Hester or Ester, I actually find no proven documentation that Ester or Esther's surname was Hart.

Lydia had a brother named Cornelius Moses Jackson and that has been proven. There is no proven documentation that Joshua Moses Jackson was a sibling of Lydia, or a son of Samuel Jackson. It may be possible that Joshua Moses Jackson was related, i.e. nephew or a cousin's son, maybe, but certainly NOT A SON. His parents are more possibly Mary Ashley and William Jackson from the same area as Samuel Jackson.

At this time, there is NO PROOF that William Starr, his ancestors or his descendants are of any Indian blood. His father's name is not even known for certain, so how can it be proven William's father was full blood Indian without even knowing who who the was? William's two sisters gave place of birth for both parents as Pennsylvnia on census asking that question.

If anyone has any proof, I would appreciate any information regarding his heritage. Verbal history is not proof.

SPECIAL NOTE: Unless a family story or tradition can be proven, Native American heritage should not be considered fact. Because of the severe persecution that they endured, many Native Americans attempted to blend in with the white population and may even be documented as "white" in historical records. Therefore, it can be extremely difficult for a researcher to find any evidence of Native American ancestry in official records.
