James W. Starr was the son of Lydia Jackson and William Starr, he was born about 1829 Tennessee. Mary Ann Newman and James W. Starr were cousin, Rachel Jackson Newman being the sister of his own Mother Lydia Jackson Starr.

In his father's will, it states, "I request that James. W. Starr and Joel A. Starr to have each one of them a horse worth as much as my son William Starr has received of me as they become of age or marry". James and Joel were the two youngest sons obviously and neither was married in 1845 at the time of William (the father) making his will.

James did marry soon afterwards and fathered by unknown Mother:

1) Christopher "Pony" McClain Starr, born 18 May 1849 Texas,
2) William Starr born c1851 Texas
3) Samuel Lafayette Starr born 10 Jul 1855 Texas
4) Thomas Jefferson Starr born 04 Feb 1854 Texas

James W. Starr. Mary Ann was the daughter of Rachel Jackson and Garrett Newman. James died at Camp Nelson, Lonoke County, Arkansas, during the War between the States.

His wife, Mary Ann Newman was married twice, the first husband was Andrew Jones Sr (born 22 Apr 1819 Jefferson County, Ohio. - death unknown) Andrew married Louise Smith 30 May 1840, Ohio or Tennessee. They had nine children.

Andrew Jones and Mary Ann were married Oct of 1863 Harrison County, Texas. They had a son Charles Jones born about 1868 Harrison County, Texas.

James and Mary Ann may not have had any children. It's believed James and Mary Ann married about 1858, she can be found in her parents in her parents' household:
see Census: 1850 Hardin Co., TN age 19
