Caroline "Carrie" Wolnowski was born in the village of Klein Languth, Kreis Rosenburg, West Prussia, in the Lutheran parish of Raudnitz. Carrie's father, Johann Wolnowski, was a farmer; her mother, Anna Kwiatkowski, married him in 1872.
Carrie arrived with her mother and five of her siblings to Castle Garden on Nov 30, 1887. Her father was already in Detroit, where the family was planning to join other German immigrants at Zion Lutheran Church and to live in the Springwells Township area.
Carrie married Edward Troeder April 28, 1900, at Zion Lutheran Church, Reverend A.W. Bachmann officiating. Carrie and Edward went on to have six children: Clara, E.Emil, Edward, Alma, Clarence, and Arnold. The family resided at 3825 Livernois, which was next door to Carrie's brother, John, and just a short walk from the homes of Carrie's parents and other siblings.
Carrie, Edward, and all of their children (except for Alma, who died in California) are at rest in the Woodmere Cemetery.
