Came over from Germany to Chilie where he met Rosa Parada. She left with him on ship where they were married in route to California. Giving up sailing he became a teamster hauling dirt to site of state capital and supplies to mines with company and family located in Sacramento,CA. There was a picture hung in Sutter's Fort as he was a friend of John A. Sutter. It now is "somewhere" in the CA archives storage. Father of William Jr. & Wm. II, John B., Theresa Maria (Riley), Lewis F., Edward and George Johnson. Died of bronchitis.(Mortuary Rpt.)
