The following information was taken from Lizzie's obituary published in the 1964 minutes of the Mulberry Gap Baptist Association. It was written by her children and the Oak Hill Church clerk, Rufus Coffey:
Shep professed faith in Christ at the age of 11 years at the Cook School house. she joined the church at Cedar Springs and in later years she moved her membership to oak Hill Baptist Church where she remained a member until death.
