Veldie (Doc) Stewart, 77, Wyaconda, died at 10:12 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at his residence. He was a well known farmer and hunter in the Clark County area. He was born in Clark County, April 6, 1893. His mother was Iantha Carlin. He was raised by foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Stewart. He married Mary Margaret Ellison in Kahoka on Dec. 14, 1946. Mr. Stewart was a member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church, the VFW, and the American Legion. He is survived by one son, Robert, Kahoka, one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Dorothy) Cackley, Keokuk, one stepdaughter, Mrs. John (Lucy) Hollow, Flint, Mich., one stepson, Francis Ellison, LaGrange, Mo., one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Sophie Stewart, two half-brothers, Ray Carlin, Kahoka, one half-sister, Mrs. Helen Nichols and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Nolen, and one daughter in infancy. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Karle Shaffer Funeral Home, Kahoka. The Rev. Ernest Deatrick officiated. Interment in the Wyaconda Cemetery. Pallbearers: Carl Ebeling, Albert Brewer, East Burke, Glen McAllister, Ben Scott, and Bud Nichols. Wayne Blum was soloist, and Margaret Davis was organist.
