She was born in Newry, County Down, Ireland and married Andrew Weir there in 1830. Their first child, Alice, was born there in 1831. The couple emigrated to Sydney, Australia in 1832. Their daughter, Dorothy was born during the voyage and children, James, Ann & Margaret were born in Sydney. Andrew and son James sailed for San Francisco Feb 4, 1850. His wife and daughters (Alice, Dorothy & Margaret) followed on Feb 24, 1852. When the ship arrived in San Francisco Harbor it was met by vigilantes as they suspected Australian criminals would be aboard (see The Daily Alta California, May 30, 1852, page 2). The entire family is together on the special 1852 California census in San Francisco.
Originally buried in Yerba Buena Cemetery in SF, first removed to Laural Hill Cemetery in SF (grave 2250), and finally to Cypress Lawn Cemetery, Colma.
