Herbert H. Raker Sr., age 86, passed away on March 2, 2010. He was born in Wakulla County on December 7, 1923. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre during WW II. After the war, he began working for the Florida Department of Transportation and became a licensed surveyor in 1958. He retired from the D. O. T. after 30 years, and worked for the Dixie County Road Department for 2 years. He established his own private land surveying business in 1979 and was the owner/operator for 20 years. He was a member of Lydia Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Winnie Raker of Cross City, FL; a sister Hester Smith of Wakulla County, FL; a brother Maurice Raker of Wakulla County, FL; (4) children: Penny Robson, Dianne Koschatzky, Judy Hatcher and Herbie Raker, all of Cross City, FL; (10) Grandchildren and (20) Great-Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father and mother Delue and Dossie Raker; (2) brothers: Dalton and Artance Raker; (2) sisters: Verlie Thomas and Marjorie Lovell.

A viewing will be held at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 03, 2010 between 6:00 and 8:00PM. The service will be held at Lydia Baptist Church on Thursday, March 04, 2010 at 3:00PM with Rev. Eldridge Lyons and Rev. Leon Holden officiating. Interment will follow at the Cross City Cemetery.

Arrangements were place under the care of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City, Florida, 352-498-5400.
