Son of Jason and Olive (Bears) Adams, natives of New England. Born March 1813, in Sullivan County, N.Y. He married December 24, 1836 in Niagara County, New York to Rachel M. Lewis. She was born Feb. 8, 1818. They came to Gratiot County in Feb. 1854 and settled in Arcada Township and were among the first white settlers in that part of the county.
August 12, 1861, Mr. Adams enlisted in Co. C, 8th Mich. Infantry Regiment and served until December 9, 1862.
Mr. and Mrs. Adams had twelve children, only twelve servive, in 1884:
Cynthia C., born Oct. 14, 1855; Edwin J., born Feb. 26, 1841; Phebe J. born Nov. 29, 1843 and Loda G., born Oct. 17, 1854.
