Charles Jordan

Charles Jordan, eldest son of John F. and Louisa Jordan, was born at Jewell, Kansas, May 21, 1879, and departed this life April 24, 1948, at his home at Sutton at the age of 68 years, 11 months and three days.

His parents moved from Jewell Kansas, to a farm near Fairbury, Nebraska, later moving to Clay County, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Pearl M. Overturf, February 25, 1903. To this union three children were born; Merrill of Lincoln; Mrs. Irene Klein and Mrs. Jean Krass, both of Sutton. Among the other survivors are six grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Overturf of Edgar; two brothers Howard of Kearney and Roy of Bellingham, Washington, and a number of other relatives.

His parents and one brother preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Methodist Church since 1910, first becoming affiliated with the church when worship service was held at the Lakeside school house, later transferring his membership to the Ong Methodist Church.

To those who knew him, his going will leave a wound which will be long in healing. He was kind and devoted to his family and loyal to his friends. His cheery smile and his unwavering courage and honesty of purpose were his most admiring characteristic.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Sutton Methodist Church with the Rev. Max H. Christopher in charge. Two vocal solos, "Shall We Gather at the River" and "Abide With Me" were sung by Dale Hultine, accompanied by his mother, Mrs. Lloyd Hultine.

Pallbearers were his son, Merrill, sons-in-law, Henry Krass, John Klein and nephews, Max Overturf, Marvin Overturf and Maurice Overturf.

Burial was made in the Ong Cemetery.
