Virginia Brewster, of East Falmouth, passed away at her home on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009.

Beloved wife of James H. Brewster Jr., Virginia was born in New York City to James P. and Elizabeth Cresswell. She graduated from Washington Irving High School in New York City, and attended Skidmore College and Tobe Coburn School of Fashion Design.

Virginia was former president of Midwestern Alumni Group.

She enjoyed horseback riding in Central Park and was an avid tennis player.

Virginia enjoyed organizing social events and was former president of Wellesley Newcomers. She was also active in the Westborough Historical Society.

Virginia traveled extensively throughout her life to England, Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, St. Martin and the U.S. Virgin Islands. She enjoyed winter vacations at her parents' home in Boca Raton, Fla. During her youth, she spent many summers in Mount Vernon Springs, N.C.

Besides her husband, Virginia is survived by her son, James H. Brewster III and his wife Christine of Port Washington, N.Y.; daughter, Cynthia Brewster-Keating and her husband James of Aiken, S.C.; grandchildren, Melissa Brewster Struck and her husband Gabriel of Northport, N.Y., Elizabeth D. Brewster of Port Washington and Mark Brewster of Port Washington; sister, Margaret Ely and her husband William of Acton; sisters-in-law, Margaret Brewster of New York City and Harriett Verheyen of Lockport, N.Y.; nieces, Jennifer Carter of Littleton, and Marie Verheyen of Walled Lake, Mich.; and nephew, Bradford Ely of Ellicott City, Md.

Visiting hours will be on Friday, Oct. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason, 584 W. Falmouth Highway (Route 28A) West Falmouth. A funeral home service will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Jones Road, Falmouth.

Donations may be made in Virginia's name to American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St., 5th floor, Boston, MA 02210.
