Dorothy Louise Chain, 86, died September 18, 2009 at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. She was born October 8, 1922 at Haven, Kansas, the daughter of Homer and Marie Guhl Astle. She married Lawrence Marcus Chain on November 15, 1942, at Haven. He died May 30, 1991.

She was a longtime Ellingwood resident and a Sterling College Elementary Education graduate of 1969. She was an elementary teacher in Claflin from 1969 to 1986. Mrs. Chain was a member of Immaneuel United Church of Christ and its Altar Guild, and of the Sew and So Club, of Ellinwood.

Survivors include two sons, Mark Chain of Lyons and Steve Chain of Ellinwood; a daughter, Carol Leann Chain of Seattle, Wash.; a brother, Bill Astle of St. John; a sister, Mary Hardy of Yakima, Wash.; a stepbrother, Rom Cantwell of Hemet, Calif.; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Aleshire, a son, Bill Chain, a grandson, Matthew John Chain, and a stepbrother, Bob Cantwell.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Ellinwood, with the Rev. Larry Young officiant. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kimple Funeral home, Ellimwood. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the church.
